W2SB: Red, White, and Blue -- UPDATED

Update

Thanks so much to everyone who visited our blog over the Memorial Day weekend! We so appreciate your kind words.

Congratulations to Vicky Scheiber who won the Bo Bunny Liberty blog candy! Vicky, we will be in touch.  :)

Finally, we hope you will come back on June 1 to see what inspirational words we have chosen for the month of June.

Original Post

Hi, everyone! Welcome to the Words 2 Scrap By post for OWH's Memorial Day Bloghop.

On this Memorial Day Weekend, those of us at Words 2 Scrap By offer thanks to those who have served our country.

W2SB is a challenge blog started by a couple of OWHers in January that uses words as the inspiration for monthly projects.

Today we are posting a bonus challenge that uses the words Red, White, and Blue as our inspiration to make cards for Operation Write Home. Our I-Teamers have used OWH Sketch #12 to make cards for OWH's four themes: Love You,  Miss You, Happy Birthday, and Thank You.

Our "Red, White, & Blue" Cards for Sketch #12

"Happy Birthday" by Penny

"Thank You" by Annie

"Love You" by Sybrina

"Miss You" by Bobbi

CG's Garden Blooms Take the Prize

Hi, everyone!

We are thrilled to announce that CG is the winner of our May Bloom Where You Are Planted challenge with her beautiful card that has such a wonderful surprise on the inside. Congratulations, CG!

Please contact us with your e-mail address so we can make arrangements for you to receive your well-deserved prize package, including a Stampin' Up! gift certificate from our very own Bernadette. Thanks again, Bernadette!

Many thanks to everyone who played along with our May challenge. It seems like our decision gets tougher and tougher every month. In addition, we had a 130% increase in posted cards from last month. (The math geek in me couldn't resist that fact!) And, it was certainly fun to see how our May words inspired so many pretty cards -- with so many different takes on the challenge!

Next Month's Challenge

So, what will June bring? For Bobbi and me, June brings thoughts of graduations, weddings, school summer vacations, and family trips. Hmmm... wonder what those words might be?

Thanks again for a great month of May. Hope you'll join us in June for our next words 2 scrap by!

W2SB Challenge #5: Bloom Where You Are Planted

Hi, everyone!

Thanks to Bobbi for a fun April challenge. What's not to like about diamonds?!

And, thanks to everyone who played along this past month. Congrats to Carol L who will join us as a Guest I-Teamer in June. Carol's lovely card had just the right amount of bling.  :)

Our Newest I-Teamer

Starting this month, we are thrilled to announce that Annie has joined our I-Team on a full-time basis. You may remember her Olympic-winning card in February and her guest-I-Team diamond card last month.

Welcome, Annie! We can't wait to see what you have in store for our future challenges.  :)

This Month's Challenge

Now onto the merry month of May, and signs of spring are everywhere! Birds are chirping, lawn mowers are revving up... and, yes, trees and flowers are blooming! What better words to capture the beauty of this magical season than Bloom Where You Are Planted?

In addition to typical thoughts of spring, this phrase always reminds me of my dear friend Teresa. Years ago, when I was teaching, Teresa was a stay-at-home mom -- of two little boys. During that time, Teresa was the Martha Stewart in my life: baking cookies for birthday celebrations, knitting scarves for Christmas gifts, sending cards to commemorate special occasions. One day at Teresa's house, I noticed a plaque in the kitchen bearing the phrase Bloom Where You're Planted. When I asked her why that phrase, she wistfully talked about letting go of dreams of making Laura Ashley dresses for a daughter and filling her days with conversations about Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine. Teresa sure did bloom where she was planted because her two boys have grown to be two remarkable young men.

The Prize Package

This month's challenge winner will be invited to be a Guest I-Teamer in July and receive a W2SB challenge-winner badge.

In addition, the winning card maker will receive a $10 Stampin' Up! gift certificate courtesy of our very own Bernadette! Thank you, Bernadette!

Our Inspiration Gallery

This month, we welcome March-challenge-winner Linda as our Guest I-Teamer.

Linda
The coloring of this image in amazing!
This little white kitty pops off the page with its blue outline and gray accents.

And, now for the I-Teamers' projects!

Annie
This card has such a crisp, fresh palette. Its black and white embellishments
pop off the page and are the perfect accents for the focal point image!

Bernadette
The month of May inspired Bernadette to make this wreath of beautiful spring blooms.  :)

Bobbi
Love this classic palette and great design!
And, the sentiment is a perfect description of Teresa's adventures raising her boys. :)

Mary Anne
Yippee-Skippee, indeed! Mary Anne totally rocked this box-fold card bursting
at the seams with spring blooms! Since Mary Anne doesn't have a blog,
feel free to leave her some love below.

Penny
Penny never ceases to amaze... and this delightful watering can is no exception!
Love how the bright colors pop off the black background!

Me
Decided to go the CAS route with a touch of bling this month.
Who needs leaves when sequins will do?
